On Thursday, October 17, 2019, the New Hampshire Golf Association established the NHGA Distinguished Service Award and presented it to its first recipient, Joe Kane for his numerous years of service and dedication to the game of golf in New Hampshire. Executive Director, Matt Schmidt announced going forward the award will be named the Joe Kane Distinguished Service Award.
Joe first joined the NHGA Board of Directors in 2005, serving on numerous committees over the years and rose to the role of NHGA President in October 2014. During his time with the NHGA, he was instrumental in the establishment of the New Hampshire Golf Foundation, which served as the charitable arm of the 2012 U.S. Junior Amateur, held at The Golf Club of New England. Although his time on the Board of Directors ended in 2016, he continued to volunteer his time with the NHGA at tournaments around the state as a Rules Official.
The Joe Kane Distinguished Service Award is presented annually to an individual who that represents the qualities embodies by Joe Kane. The recipient is recognized for their service to the game of golf in New Hampshire and their conduct exemplified by their sterling qualities of outstanding sportsmanship, dedication, inspiration, leadership, vision, friendship and high character.
